From the "what were they thinking!? department comes the coverart from the current edition of the UK's Pop magazine, which features Britney Spears in... a traditional Japanese school swimsuit, in a pose that's more what you would expect from a 10-year-old manga character. There's also an alternative cover with her in a rather Wedding Peach-esque wedding dress.

The photoshoot was directed by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, whose aim was to turn Spears into a manga character. I leave it to you to work out how successful that was. Spears isn't the only US celeb to appear in a manga-themed project recently - Kirsten Dunst went all mahou shoujo on us not too long ago, in a music video collaboration between Murakami and US director McG. That concept worked - this... hmmm.
