Ika watches as the invasion of Earth unfolds... unfortunately for her, it's just a TV movie, as her own plans for invasion still haven't amounted to much, as Eiko's quick to remind her. Inspired by the televised exploits she's just seen and Eiko's putdowns, though, Ika decides it's time to get her plans back on track - but with per paranoia running at full tilt she's seeing bombs and traps everywhere. Later, Sanae realises she's got competition on her hands when she sees how well Ika and Kiyomi are getting on, while Ika comes to the rescue when a spate of jellyfish causes problems at the beach...
Ika's back, back again - and she's brought her full gamut of friends with her, much to Sanae's annoyance. I'm getting the distinct feeling that Squid Girl!? (in keeping with current trends in anime that '?' at the end of the title is all that differentiates the second season from the first) may well fill YuruYuri's void in my Monday evening viewing. Probably shouldn't be surprised at that, as Ika filled YuruYuri's broadcast slot in Japan, too. If you've seen the first season, there'll be no surprises here - aborted attempts to conquer the world, Sanae's yuri-fuelled jealousy, Chizuru's take-no-shit attitude, all present and correct from the first season - as they should be - and so far at least, no unwelcome surprises.
THE GOOD: As with the first season, good, clean (or occasionally covered in squid ink) fun with very little about it that's not to like - charming characters, good humour, and fast-paced enough that it never gets a chance to get dull.
THE BAD: Sorry, nothing here. As comedy shows go, this is right up there with the best of them.
I was completely suckered by Ika in season one, there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that I was going to skip on season two - I've been waiting for it eagerly, even. Now it's here, and I'm going to damn well make the most of it.
