A fierce battle takes place in the mountains of Kanagawa between students of Kawakami Academy, a school that resolves internal disputes with martial arts. As you do. Behind the scenes, we see a love story unfold between a brilliant tactician and the strongest of the Big Four, a girl with the nickname "the God of Martial Arts." But it seems there are others after the young tactician's heart.
That description is mostly from the official blurb. There were two shows that Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls brought to mind: Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts (school that uses unusual means to settle differences) and Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School (school that, uh, uses unusual means to settle differences). The first ep here just sets the scene with a massive set-piece battle to settle a score between Class F (500 students) and Class S (900 students), and give the future lead characters a chance to make an impact.
While I enjoyed Baka and Test and Real Bout High School, though, this flicked precisely no buttons at all. The girls are cute and all, the action was well-animated and for the most part impressive (although there were some scenes that felt strangely lifeless) - but I just got nothing from it. There's nothing here that encourages me to watch any more of it.
THE GOOD: Pretty. Decently animated.
THE BAD: Lifeless, no really appeal, no unique selling point.
Dropzilla says "NOM". Won't be bothering any further with this one.
