High schooler Yachi Haruaki gets a package one day from his jet-setting, curio-collecting father. It turns out to be Fear, a curse in the human form of a girl, and she's come to Haruaki's home to be cured of her "condition". Haruaki has a natural resistance to curses, so he'll be okay, but what happens when he's off at school and the living curse wanders the neighborhood..?

FearRivals

First thing to note here is that this is apparently one of those shows that you shouldn't judge purely on the first episode, as the tone is supposed to shift very dramatically, very quickly. But the first episode is all I've seen, so... C3 is from Silver Link, the studio behind Baka to Test to Shoukanju, and at first glance it seems to be going for the same comic feel. The character designs also have that BakaTest feel to them, too. Fear is simply adorable - she knows exactly what she is, doesn't like it, and is doing her best to become something other than a curse to those around her. She just has no idea what she's doing when it comes to living in the "real" world. Haruaki is also wise to her and her situation and is doing what he can to help - she could have landed with a lot worse. The third character introduced here, girl-next-door and childhood friend Konoha, is quickly nicknamed "udder girl" by Fear - no prizes for guessing why - and that pretty much accurately described her role so far.

THE GOOD: Light-hearted fun. Which I'm fairly certain isn't going to last.

THE BAD: Nothing yet, other than the uncertainty of where they're going with it.

On the basis of this episode alone, I'd be on the fence - it's fun but nothing unusual. But hearing where it's going - "most violent show of the season", of which there isn't even a hint here - makes it an easy decision to stick with it.
