Many moons ago, I was captivated by animated series The Mysterious Cities of Gold. I never realised it at the time, of course, but it was a Japanese/French co-production, animated by Studio Pierrot, and had the strong, ongoing plot that typically sets anime apart from western animation. That series aired 25 years ago, though, and is now forgotten by most people, and fondly remembered by only a few. It seems that a new generation will be getting to discover the series, though, as Jean Chalopin (scriptwriter on the original series along with a host of other credits in western animation) confirmed at France's Chibi Anime Expo recently that French broadcaster TF1 is planning to resurrect the show for three 26-episode series, beginning in 2011. New news yet on if the Japanese connection will be restored, but I'm looking forward to seeing this anyway.
