One of these days I'll run out of bad puns to use as post titles. But not today.
Gravitation is the latest series to make its way out of MVM Entertainment, and combines two popular subjects in one show: music, as the show follows the attempts of band Bad Luck to become the latest hot act, and yaoi themes (or boy's-love, if you prefer), as lead character Shuichi has serious sexuality issues to deal with. It's true that the series won't be up everyone's alley (no sniggering at the back, please), but you never know until you see for yourself - so until the review is ready, here are a few promo clips courtesy of VM to give you a taster.

I've been enjoying the Eureka Seven TV series recently - better late than never - and now it seems that we'll be getting a feature-length update. Full details are due to be announced in this month's issue of Newtype, but it's expected that leads Renton and Eureka will feature in an 'alternate universe' story with a somewhat different mythos to the TV series. According to ANN, the film will also feature "a new form of storytelling", whatever that means - but if it's as good as the TV series seems to be after the 3 volumes I've seen so far, it should be worth waiting for.

FLCL (aka Fooly Cooly) is due for release from MVM Entertainment on 28th April (it's been puched back a bit). One of the most mind-bending OVA shows out there and quite possible the only GAINAX production that actually lives up to its hype, it's one of those shows that you really should have in your collection. It's just a shame that it took so long to reach the UK.
To tide you over until the release, MVM have provided a few clips from the show. Enjoy.

With the Tokyo Anime Fair underway this week, it's a big week for new show announcements, even if some of them are made away from the event. There are too many to mention (and not all of them will get English-language releases anyway), but here's a few worth noting.
Madhouse are working on an anime adaptation of Ultraviolet, the CG-heavy action flick starrin Milla Jovovich. It'll be a TV series under the name Ultraviolet: Code 044 and should begin airing in July. They're also working on a new project directed by Sunao Katabuchi, Maimai Shinko to Sennen no Maho (Maimai Shinko and the Millennium-Old Magic). Katabuchi is currently best known for Black Lagoon, but this project - due for theatrical release, but no date set yet - seems to be a far gentler piece of work.
BONES have tied up with Sony Music again (they produced Fullmetal Alchemist and Eureka Seven together) to create Bonen no Xamdou - full details on what the series will be about aren't going to be released until April 10th, but their partnership has a good record so this could be one to keep an eye on. The show's website is here.
Finally, from the "shows that would not die" department (whatever happened to the days when anime shows got one series & no more?), Zero no Tsukaima is getting a third season, titled Princesses no Rondo. With the first season still stuck in licence limbo after Geneon stopped releasing, who knows if this will ever reach this side of the world, but I enjoyed the first season so this gets a mention. It'll air in Japan this summer. |

Hell Girl is to get a third animated outing, in the form of Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae - as if Ai hasn't carried enough people off to hell already. No firm dates for the new series yet, but there's a Hell Girl event scheduled for the Tokyo Anime Fair in April, which may bring more details.
