Hellsing's Ultimate Makeover
Shameless Promotion
Friday, 22 August 2008

Hellsing UltimateThe original Hellsing TV series go its UK release a few years back - by all accounts it was a huge hit for ADV, but the series itself was flashy but heavily flawed. It seems the original producers realised this and went back to the drawing board - the result was Hellsing Ultimate, and it'll be arriving in the UK in October, courtesy of Manga Entertainment. Now, I've only seen the first episode of the series so far (it's a 4-episode OVA release), and I can safely say I'm drooling at the mouth to see the rest. For a little taster, Manga have posted a set of preview clips to tide you over in the meantime.

Buso Renkin: More Alchemy Heading Your Way

Buso RenkinIf you've been keeping an eye on the manga reviews, you'll know I've been enjoying Buso Renkin lately - it's a manga with a bit more intelligence than the usual Shonen Jump title, and has a lot going for it. Now, Manga UK are bringing the anime adaptation to the UK, with the first volume (13 episodes on 3 discs) arriving on August 25th. I already have my copy and will be posting the review sometime between now and then (finding the time to watch 13 episodes isn't easy!), but in the meantime, here are a few clips from the show to whet your appetite.

Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Movie in Development
Upcoming Shows
Thursday, 24 July 2008

IF Magazine had a chat with Fox producer Erwin Stott recently, and got confirmation from him that he's currently working on a live-action adaptation of fan-favourite anime series Cowboy Bebop. Now, usually anime to live-action is a recipe for disaster, but Stott was quick to point out that he's making every effort to remain true to the source material:

“I have such an enormous admiration for its creators, that our first and foremost concern is going to be a real degree of faithfulness to the tone of the movie, to the mix of genres, and so on and so forth. When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A Scanner Darkly, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K Dick, and that was our big concern here.”
Sounds promising, then...

Manga have posted a trailer for their theatrical release of Origin: Spirits of the Past, the first feature film from GONZO. The film goes on limited release on 12 July. An environmentally-friendly sci-fi tale, the movie follows the story of young boy Agito and his adventures with girl from the past Toola. It certainly looks impressive - if the story matches the visuals, we could be in for something special...

Ghost in the Shell 2.0
Upcoming Shows
Monday, 09 June 2008

I'm coming to realise that in some ways, there's no-one who can milk a franchise quite like the Japanese. In advance of the August 2nd release of director Mamoru Oshii's latest work The Sky Crawlers, old stalwart Ghost in the Shell is getting an updated '2.0' theatrical release. The new edition features new CG & digital effects for a number of scenes and a new 6.1-channel soundtrack, courtesy of Lucas Digital's Skywalker Sound. The voice track has also been re-recorded, with most of the original cast reunited for the job - the one major exception being the character of the Puppet Master. Originally voiced by Iemasa Kayumi, the character will now be played by Yoshiko Sakakibara (who played Prime Minister Kayabuki in the Stand Alone Complex TV series). 2.0 hits Japanese theatres on July 2nd - expect an inevitable DVD and/or Blu-ray release in the not-to-distant future...
