The other player in this seasons' "ecchi comedy shootout", and by far
the better of the two, even with the heavy-handed editing. Time for
another batch of Girls Bravo.
3 - Cooking is Bravo!
Yukinari's still being haunted by dreams of how he was bullied as a kid
because of his size - just as well he can wake up to Miharu-chan these
days. She's been properly transferred into school now, too (thanks to
some greasing of palms by Fukuyama, who probably has some perverted
ulterior motives of his own). More complications, though - as if having
to deal with Kirie and Miharu isn't enough, Yukinari runs into Risa,
who has been paying too much attention to her horoscope & believes
Chibi-Nari is her fated soulmate, and will stop at nothing to make him
hers - including kidnapping...
4 - Bravo at the Estate
Kirie's been thinking over what she said to Risa last episode -
although she realises that Risa's unlikely to give up easily. That
said, neither will she (yay for early confirmation that the girl's
interested!). When she spots that Miharu's out for the day, she heads
over to Yukinari's to see if she can take advantage of the situation -
but he's too depressed at having been left alone by Miharu to even
really notice her. When it looks like Miharu's gone out with Fukuyama,
it's a real emergency - so Yukinari & Kirie head over to Fukuyama's
estate to find out what's going on...
5 - Bravo on a Rainy Day (Part I)
Someone else has come across from Seiren - although the first Yukinari
knows about it is when Kirie and Miharu find a body floating in the
bath. Her name's Koyomi and she's very
afraid of men, although past that she has an amnesia problem. While
Kirie and Miharu do their best to make Koyomi feel welcome, it's not
long before she ends up on the wrong end of Fukuyama's attentions...
There seems to be a run on "to be continued..." episodes as the
moment. Grrr. The editing here (done by Fuji TV, who are airing this
show in Japan) is also really beginning to get on my nerves, although
they should probably get an award for creative use of steam &
shadow. However, I read Megami, so I know what I'm missing. The
good news on this front is that the upcoming 2nd season will be airing
on a different network in Japan (WOWOW), and is likely to be left
pretty much alone. Just so you know,
Content-wise, the show continues with its slapstick comedy / harem
romance mix, and still carries it off really well. With 2 more girls
added to the harem, things are starting to build up, and it's far from
certain Miharu will be the winner at the end (if there even is a winner
- if Girls Bravo ends up without a proper conclusion, I'll cry, as it's doing so well with the rest of the formula).
Risa's obsession with magic & the unwelcome results of her
spells adds another source of humour to the show, meaning we're not
always geting repeats of the same gags - at least not yet. How they're
going to play Koyomi & her mission remains to be seen, but I'm sure
part II will fill in a lot of the gaps.
Overll, then, Girls Bravo beats DearS by a long shot
for my pick of the ecchi shows, and doesn't even break into a sweat
doing it. Great comedy, and well worth watching. |
