Magikano heads onto the home run, and finally remembers that Ayumi's in the world of humans for a reaon - but not before performing Cinderella, introducing us to some cursed panties, and serving up a typicaly depressing Christmas episode. Oh, and Haruo puts on a display of anger that makes one of Maika's tirades look tame. All in a day's play for these witches...
9 - Is he Really a Sleeping Prince!?
rom sports fest to culture fest, and while Ayumi would be quite happy working in the 'American Maid Cafe' (complete with cheerleader outfit and rollerskates), the Student Council has something else in mind for her: a role in Cinderella, with Yuri as Cinderella and Haruo as her prince. No prizes for guessing what roles Ayumi and the three sisters play. As if having that lot on the same stage isn't enough of a recipe for disaster, though, Ayumi's little sister Michiru has come to steal the prince...
10 - Are the Cat Panties Really Cursed!?
Ayumi's decided it's time to stop being Miss Nice Witch and just get down to the business of seducing Haruo and getting her curse broken - but even with the sisters out of the house and free reign to tempt him however she pleases, she just can't make any progress. Feminine charms just don't seem to have any effect on him. Fortunately, Rika has something that may help: the legendary neko pantsu that used to belong to Ayumi's grandmother, and that have the power to seduce any man. Two problems: one, they're posessed by the spirit of a very perverted fairy (which Ayumi only realises after she puts them on), and two, the only person who'll be able to take them off is Haruo...
11 - Was it Really a Holy Night!?
Christmas is approaching, and Maika and Ayumi are battling over who's going to get to spend time with Haruo on Christmas Eve. Yuri and Marin are busy having some x-rated dreams of what they're planning on doing with him, too. Poor Haruo's too tired to be worried about such things, though, and the girls aren't really on his mind. But the winner of the Sakuramori High "Girl You Want to Spend Christmas Eve With" contest, one Ayumi Mamiya, isn't about to let herself be ignored, and sets off to find out what's bothering him - and doesn't like what she finds out...
Let's start at the end. There seems to be some sort of unwritten rule of anime that Christmas episodes must involve a good amount of depression and misunderstanding, otherwise they don't count - and so we get an episode that feels very out-of-place in this series, as it's quite dark and serious, which as a general rule Magikano isn't. On the plus side, you do get to see that perhaps Ayumi and Haruo are beginning to develop some sort of connection - one that's a little bit stronger than Ayumi had intended when she came to get him to break her curse.
For fanservice value, episode 10 is hard to beat - any episode that ends with Ayumi's panties around her ankles has to be a winner, and Maika's reaction when she sees that (bearing in mind that Haruo's holding said panties at the time) is absolutely priceless. Sure, the comedy in Magikano tends to be a bit OTT, but it really is well done and it's really easy to enjoy the mayhem as it plays out on screen.
The story around Ayumi's curse, once long forgotten, makes a comeback here, as little sister Michiru begins to take steps to make sure that Ayumi's curse stays intact. If Ayumi loses her powers, see, she can't inherit the leadership of her family - it would fall to Michiru instead, so she's got good reason to make sure Haruo doesn't work the sort of magic that Ayumi seems to think he's capable of.
Apart from that, not much to say, really - Magikano simply sticks to what it's good at and keeps the laughs coming. It'll never win any awards for originality, but the execution is good enough to easily carry the show. Great fun. |
