Full Metal Panic! - Volume 7After a somewhat schizophrenic start, Full Metal Panic! finally settled down to being a mecha action show - which is a damn shame, as it was so much better at being a comedy...

22 - Jack in the Box
Gauron's managed to take control of the deDanaan, but with Sousuke & Kurz on the loose you know he's not going to get his own way. Tessa & Kaname don't know that help is on the way, though, so Tessa has to come up with a plan of her own - and her ability to Resonate with Kaname gives her the means to carry it out... Meanwhile, a gung-ho American sub commander thinks he's found a way to track the 'Toy Box' down - but will his chase of the deDanaan be a help or a hindrance?

23 - Field of Giants
Kaname may have Sousuke's help in trying to reach the Lady Chapel, but the American ships are rapidly closing in on the deDanaan - and if they launch a successful attack, neither Gauron's nor Tessa's plans will mean much. Kaname manages to reach her goal, though, and the equipment in the Chapel allows her to both Resonate with Tessa and connect directly to the deDanaan's control systems - but with Gauron ordering the submarine to continue diving past its design limits, she may be too late...

24 - Into the Blue
Final showdown time, with Gauron and Sousuke taking each other on in their AS's. Lots of manly posing & slow-motion combat ensues - woohoo. But can Sousuke manage what no-one else has throughout this series, and finish off Gauron? Later, there's an opportunity for Tessa to count those who have fallen under her command, and for Kaname & Sousuke to spend some last time together...

This disc has been sitting on my shelf for a while, but I've been holding off on watching it as Full Metal Panic! really became a chore to watch once it got rid of the comedy aspect. What we have here is three action-packed episodes - but sadly, action was never this series' strong point, leaving this disc far short of enjoyable or engaging, and with me being ever so glad when it was over.

The bad guy that just won't die, the macho posing with mechs & shouting of threats - what happened to the fun, comedy show that we had for the almost the first half of the series? Gonzo inexplicably ripped out the good aspects of this show in favour of the bad, and for life of me I can't figure out why.

Overall, I'm finding myself unable to recommend the series as a whole, and hoping Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! gets releases quickly, as the second season shows how good this could have been, but isn't.
