According to Animaxis, Production IG are to list on the JASDAQ stock exchange later this week. There are two sides to this: the initial money that comes from a stock market float can be used to build the business (a good thing), but it also brings shareholders on board, with their demands that the company "maximise the return on their investment" and so on - which generally is done by playing safe with the market and, in entertainment terms, sticking to what you know will work & taking no chances. It's this mentality that leads Hollywood to produce sequel after sequel, year after year.

I'd hate to see Production IG go down that route, so this announcement worries me a little. Privately-held companies still have shareholders, true, but the pressure to make money usually isn't quite as strong, and all forms of entertainment need the ability to take risks if they're to produce something that stands out and is different. Hopefully this won't lead to them only taking the safe options on future projects.
