s-CRY-ed is one of those titles I was hoping wouldn't pass my way again - I watched the full series probably 3 years ago now, when it was originally airing in Japan, and the memory I kept of it was of another mindless fighting series. Past that, nothing stayed in my mind about it - whatever my taste in anime was at the time, s-CRY-ed was completely forgettable. Fast forward to a few months ago, and I drew the short straw in getting the series to review for AoD. Great, I thought, this is going to be six volumes of complete torture - and for the first 2-3 volumes, it was. ![]() ![]() Then along came volume 4, and suddenly things improved dramatically, leaving me wondering how I'd missed this the first time around. This time through, the characters seem more rounded, they're developing and changing, and the fighting doesn't seem to be as drawn-out as it did either. Where with some titles it's a struggle to find anything to say, writing up this disc was almost a joy. Has my taste in anime changed that much over three years? What other old series on my shelf could I go back to now and get something completely different from? Lack of free time means that re-watching series isn't something I get the chance to do often, but I've just found a good reason to try and find the time... |
