I spent a large chunk of the Christmas break working through my anime backlog - one of the shows I've been wanting to get to for a while has been Futakoi Alternative, and I finally blitzed a batch of episodes of it on Tuesday. One of the things I couldn't help but notice was the complete disconnect between the show's opening credits and the tone of the series, especially by around episodes 8-10. Beware spoilers after the screenshots...

Here's the thing. New World is an insanely upbeat and catchy song, while the opening animation features all the girls in a series of all-action, guns-blazing scenes. That captured the feeling of the series for all of about one episode - did the creators of that sequence have any idea when they made it of where the series was going to go, or the tone it would develop? At the stage I'm up to, we've had the separation of the girls, an arranged marriage for Sara, and the destruction of Rentarou & Souju's home - and by the looks of it, more destruction to come. I think the series would have a hard time becoming more emotionally heavy than it already is.

I'm loving Futakoi Alternative, no question, but is it too much to ask for the OP sequence to be a fair representation of what you'll see in the show? Because unless the story takes a truly dramatic turn in the final 3 episodes, the OP is everything the series isn't...
