And most people though Central Park Media were dead. It seems they've just been resting, almost in Norwegian Blue-style. They've also engaged online metrics company Media Defender to measure the scale on online anime piracy over the BitTorrent network, and their conclusion is that upwards of six million illegal downloads take place each week - although they don't distinguish between downloads of shows that are licensed in the west, and those that aren't. The figures also don't include downloads from other channels such as Usenet, IRC, or paid-for FTP services.
Of course, that doesn't mean that the releasing companies are losing money on all those downloads - a significant proportion will be your leechers who would never have bought a DVD release anyway - but it still represents a large dent in potential earnings at a time when the market's already struggling. All I'll say is: It wasn't me...
