GDHGONZO parent company GDH have announced their plans to dip their toe into the peer-to-peer distribution market, and will be selling download-to-own anime episodes through their website over the next year. Series tagged for inclusion in the pilot include Speed Grapher and 2008 series The Tower of Druaga. This is not the most wallet-friendly project, though - a "high-definition" episode of Speed Grapher, for example, is a wallet-busting ¥1,500 (£7) - and that's for an archive show. The scheme also isn't guaranteed to last beyond the one-year pilot, which means that depending on the form of DRM used, your "download-to-own" file may stop working at that point, so buyer beware.

Full marks for making the effort to experiment, but I think some tweaking might be required to make this a mass-market idea. More details at the GDH website.
