Now that all the AX announcments are out of the way, back to the proper
stuff - this time, a trip into a stylistic Magical World, thanks to the
girls from Mahou Shoujo Tai...
Episode 1
Alice has always dreamed of magic - but it's not something you can use
in the everyday world, right? But when she suddenly finds herself in a
magical world, the possibilities open up... Her time there doesn't get
off to a good start, though, when she's arrested for interfering in the
capture of a magical sprite. At first Alice believes she's dreaming,
but she soon finds out the magical world is real - and they're not used
to having humans here...
Episode 2
The witches of the magical world have been gathering sprites and
keeping them captive, as a way pf protecting their own magical powers -
but Alice's first broomstick flight (where she collides with just about
everything in her path) set the sprites free. The Witches' Council
needs to recover them quickly if they're to maintain their authority,
but the sprites are about to be co-operative. To make matters worse,
Alice, Sheila and Eva are captured by the Council and takes with
recovering the dprites temselves (after all, it was their fault they
escaped) - with the incentive that a spell has been cast on them to
prevent them from growing up until the task is complete...
3 - Magic Broom
Sheila's getting a bit fed up having Alice following her around - after
all the trouble she's gotten into since meeting her, who can blame her?
- so she challenges Alice to a broom race - if she wins, Alice will
leave them alone. Alice decides it's not worth the effort, so leaves of
her own accord - but being a stranger in a strange world, she doesn't
have anywhere to go... Eva, on the other hand, seems quite fond of
Alice, and follows her to try and persuade her to stay - so Alice
relents and agrees to the race. Meanwhile, representatives of the
Witches' Council are keeping an eye on Alice, believing her to be some
sort of rebel...
Hmmm. First to get all thoughts of Mahou Tsukai Tai out of my mind, as the show names are close enough to be confusing... ^^;
I'll be honest up front - I'm not at all sure what to make of this
show. Artistically, the style is very angular, making it not the most
visually appealing show out there. Add to that a group of characters
who aren't the easiest to sympathise with (Alice believes in her ideas
enough to come across as arrogrant, while Sheila's about as
2-dimensional as a character can be), and thing are on shaky ground.
Story-wise, it's fairly simple at this stage but there are a few
hints to deeper things that show promise - the significance of being
human, the plans of the Witches' Council - but at the end of these
three episodes, it just wasn't dragging me in enough that I wanted to
continue with the series. Pass... |
