Taking the award for 'most creative & embarassing way of entering an alternative world', it's Kyou Kara Maou. Shame the rest of the show doesn't seem to be as creative...
1 - Flushed Away to a Strange World
When high-school student Shibuya has an unfortunate encounter with a
toilet (bogwashed after a run-in with the school bullies), he finds
himself literally flushed from his own reality to another one. Takes a
while for the facts to sink in though - he initially thinks everyone's
cosplaying - but when he's captured by a group that seems to think he's
royalty, he finally begins to realise that all isn't quite right. Seems
Shibuya was meant to born in this world, but for some reason his spirit
was sent to Earth to be born there. Eighteen years later, he's been
called back 'home' - as well as being royalty,he has the power of the
Maou, which is needed in this world. Not everyone in 'his' kingdom
seems pleased to see him, though...
Hard to put a finger on quite why, but this show just didn't grab me
- possibly because I'm not a great fan of shows that hark back to
historical Japan, which is essentially the theme here (although it does
have a few twists on the setting to make it a bit less stereotypical).
Those who like their bishounen will find a few characters here worth
watching, but after this episode I wasn't feeling any burning desire to
continue. Pass... |
