17 - Ichigo Dies!
Ichigo may be powerful, but there are some aspects to being a Soul Reaper that he doesn't know or understand - and that lack of knowledge proves fatal in his battle against Renji - even with Rukia trying to protect him, and even with his own powers boosted to the max in an attempt to win the fight, the kid ends up dead. This is not good for his career progression. Rukia, meanwhile, faces punishment for the time she's spent in the human world, and for siding with Ichigo...
18 - Reclaim! The Power of the Shinigami
Being left for dead and having lost his Soul Reaper powers has left Ichigo feeling strangely empty - the days are just floating past him, without him having any sort of feeling that life is continuing. He just wants Rukia back, but he's not yet reached the point in his training where Mr Hat'n'Clogs feels he's ready to face the Soul Society. More disturbingly, none of his friends seem to even remember Rukia - except Orihime, who finally comes clean with just how much she knows about Ichigo's activities and the Hollows, and in doing so gives Ichigo added determination to get Rukia back. But with Rukia facing execution for her actions, his time is running out...
19 - Ichigo Becomes a Hollow!
Rukia has been formally sentenced to death - sentence to be carried out 25 days hence. Ichigo, meanwhile, is at the bottom of the Shattered Shaft with 72 hours to become a Soul Reaper and climb out of the pit - or die. You certainly can't say that Mr Hat'n'Clogs does his training by halves. Orihime and Chad are also undergoing training, courtesy of talking cat Yoruichi - but unlike Ichigo, they seem to lack either the ability or the willpower to push their own powers to the next level. Back at the bottom of the Shattered Shaft, meanwhile, Ichigo's Chain of Fate runs out, and his transformation from human to Hollow begins...
20 - Ichimaru the Silver Shadow
For a man whose sister has just been sentenced to death, Byakuya's remarkably calm. Uncaring, even. It's not something that's gone unnoticed, and Ichimaru, captain of another Soul Society squad, has a few things to say to Byakuya on the matter. Meanwhile, Ichigo and Kisuke are still facing off - if Ichigo's to have a chance of winning this duel, then he's going to have to figure out how to awaken the power of his zanpaku-to. To do that, he needs to know its name - but how do you go about figuring out the name of a piece of metal..?
