Episode three of BLASSREITER, and despite hoping for something, I dunno, interesting or understandable to happen, I'm still waiting. And hoping. Gerd's disappeared - although the media have gone from proclaiming him "hero" to "demon" in one day flat, and the effects of his attack are still there for XAT to deal with, and while it's clear that humans can now become Amalgams without dying first, no-one knows why...
Hermann lands himself with a 3-day suspension from duty for allowing Gerd to escape - an unusually lenient punishment, and one that leaves his belief that Gerd is still one of the "good guys" undiminished. Amanda suspects a connection between Joseph, the mysterious man witnessed around Gerd, and the blue Blassreiter that fought with Gerd, and starts her own investigation to try and prove her suspicion. Meanwhile, XAT witnesses a sudden change in the condition of the victims that were exposed to the Amalgams attack - the victims are beginning to show signs of transforming into Amalgams themselves...
Joseph's early appearances had the feel of the sinister, but here he seems to be turning out more to be one of the good guys - he intervenes to stop Matthew (in Amalgam mode) from harming Jil, and is keeping a close eye on events from a safe distance. That leaves him more neutral than before, and I suspect that if anyone's going to be able to clue us into what's actually going on in BLASSREITER, he's yer man. I'm not holding my breath, though.
Fortunately I'm not the only person getting frustrated by a lack of knowledge - XAT's pink-haired beauty Amanda (rapidly becoming the star of the show, now that the diversion known as Gerd is out of the way) is also suffering from curiosity. She's also in a position to do something about it, lucky her, and begins her own unauthorised investigation into Joseph and his origins. Nothing of interest to report yet - hopefully she'll have something for us before the end of the series. I'm not holding my breath, though.
There are one or two small nuggets of information thrown into the mix, though: Malek, the boy under Amanda's care (relationship unknown - something else the series doesn't bother to tell us), his foreign origins and a throwaway comment about where Demoniacs come from; and the effects of Gerd's attack and the spread of the Amalgam "infection". There's the basis there for something to happen, but whatever is going on behind the scenes in BLASSREITER, it's moving at glacial speed. I'm still confused by the difference between "Demoniac" and "Amalgam" (they seem to be interchangeable terms), though - if there are going to be any explanations soon, can we start there, please? I'm not holding my breath, though.
Okay, that "holding my breath" gag is getting tired now, so I'll stop. I just want this series to tell me what the hell is going on, and start making a little bit of sense. The interpersonal stuff is only interesting up to a point (mainly as I really don't care about Gerd, Jil or Hermann), there's not enough action to merit watching it as a purely action series, so we're left with something in-between that really isn't all that appealing.
But hey, it's free - or at least one of the options is - so I'll keep watching for a while yet. But BLASSREITER is falling far short of expectations, and really needs to improve quickly.
