The excrement is about to hit the air circulation device, if you catch my drift. With XAT seemingly just pawns in a much larger game and the threat posed by the Amalgams about to be taken to a whole new level, the truth behind the scenes is beginning to become clear...
Hermann and Amanda are still in confinement - while their superiors have determined that they were snooping for personal reasons rather than on someone else's behalf, they're not prepared to release them just yet. Wolf's "illness" has been noticed - and he's not the only XAT agent who's beginning to feel unwell, as the infection seems to be spreading through the ranks. A massive outbreak of Amalgams triggers the full change in a number of XAT members, though, and soon the organisation's members are fighting each other...
There's a neat little triangle at the top of all the chaos that's unleashed this episode, made up of Xargin, Beatrice and Joseph. Between them they're privy to all that needs to be known about the Amalgams and their true purpose, but they're each opposed to the others - which leads to a neat little confrontation when Beatrice and Joseph finally meet. Whether XAT's director is allied to Beatrice or Xargin isn't known at this point, but the organisation has clearly been a pawn in a much larger game - and that game now seems to be reaching its final stages. And we're not even at the half-way point of the series yet.
As I suspected earlier in the series, Amanda's turning out to be the real lead of the series - her connection to Malek, whose fate is still unknown at this point, and her personal involvement in trying to find out what's going on in order to save him, have put her at the centre of the storm, with Hermann being just about the only support she's got. The pursuit of Malek is going to have to wait a while, though, as the sudden and massive Amalgam outbreak in the city is of more immediate concern.
With this episode, BLASSREITER continues to pick up pace, and is becoming more enjoyable to watch with each passing week. If only it hadn't taken so long for that to happen - I'm sure plenty of people will have already given up on the series out of exasperation at the way the earlier episodes simply meandered around without going anywhere. We seem to have reached something of a mid-season climax, with all the excuses for added violence that brings, and with story not exactly being the show's strong point that's probably no bad thing either.
I'm going to break with tradition and admit I'm actually looking forward to the next episode. That's probably the cue for it to disappoint me horribly, but you have to admit - it's progress...
