BLASSREITERLet BLASSREITER's final battle begin - and the person facing off against the Bad Guy™ isn't who you'd expect. Action is normally where this series falls flat on its face, but somehow this episode manages to hold up quite well. Shame they didn't master that art before now...

Zwölf has been essentially wiped out, and with Germany's own defence forces in tatters the governments of other countries make a decision to attack and deal with the problem themselves, before the Amalgam infestation spreads. Their method of attack leaves little doubt as to their aims: to nuke the country and ensure that nothing lives to spread the infection. Mei-Feng and her comrades learn from their own alert system that bombing raids have begun, and try to intercept the bombers utilizing the resources of the Apocalypse Knights. Meanwhile, a single figure faces off with Xargin in order to buy time until Isis is completed...

IncomingFinal battle

This episode doesn't reach the point where I take back everything bad I've ever said about BLASSREITER's ability to do good action scenes, but it is pretty much unique in that it's mainly fighting and yet managed not to turn me off completely. If it weren't for the small detail that there's only one episode left, I'd have said there was hope for the series yet - but we are almost at the end of the show, and it's done a stellar job before now at making sure I'd lost any interest I may once have had.

The most surprising thing here is the unexpected return of Malek to the fray - he's been out of the picture since around the show's half-way point, with him missing presumed dead until just last episode (being in Zwölf's tender care amounted to "missing" to me, as despite allegedly being on the side of good I've never been able to see them that way). He also shows a surprising amount of guts, by being the one person to stand up to Xargin while Sasha tries to perfect the Isis nanomachines - the boy came good in the end.

There are a few inconsistencies - for example, Sasha gave the Isis data to Amanda last episode, but if she was just going to continue the work herself why did she bother? - but overall this episode was surprisingly enjoyable. And that something I doubted I would ever write again. I guess you can never say never. Just one episode to go - makybe BLASSREITER can go out with an enjoyable bang after all...
