Apparently from the same 'universe' as GunParade March, but the only things Kenran Butoh Sai has in common with it are the occasional mech battle, and being a worth-watching show...

1 - Raid! The Ship of Aurora
Mars of the future, and it's been transformed into a pleasant, water-covered world. Unfortunately, problems typically found on Earth can be found here - with the Martian economy in recession, those less fortunate have been turning to some less-than-legal methods of earning a living, and so the number of military personnel on the planet is rising... One pirate ship in particular has been causing more than its fair share of trouble - the Ship of Aurora. When the Aurora launches a raid on the port city of Adena, unemployed labourer Gram inadvertently gets dragged into the fight between RB's (underwater mecha) from the military & the Aurora...

2 - Fierce Attack! Round Buckler
Gram's offered a full-time 'job' on board the Aurora, but first he's got to prove he has the necessary skills by surviving a sword duel with the captain... Back in Adena, Dolittle & the rest of his squad have to come to terms with their loss, but a moment's carelessness from Gram reveals the Aurora's hiding place, giving them a second shot at the pirates...

At this stage of the series, we're still seeing the setup of the characters & their world - so there's quite a few characters that you know are going to play some major part but have only had a few moments of screen-time. Even so, The Mars Daybreak has the feel of a well-put-together story, and those characters that have had some development are a well-balanced bunch - there's not too much resorting to stereotype here.

The setting itself avoids a straight good -vs- bad scenario & gives us something that deals a bit more in shades of grey - not the people watching for the action scenes will particularly care, but it's something that gives the potential for the writers to mess with you a bit later in the series. I wonder if they'll use the opportunity... Action scenes are fairly well-done as well, with the use of wired-remote mecha being something a little different.

Overall, enough of interest in these first few episodes to pique my curiosity. I be watching more of this one...
