Remember how I said Kannaduki no Miko was 'anime by the numbers'? I take it all back...

Kannaduki no Miko - Episode 86 - You Who Are the Sun
Himeko's pining over Souma - she's lost the hairpin he gave her & she's having a generally hard time getting to spend any time with him - and it's beginning to get to Chikane. She's always valued the time she had with Himeko, mainly as she was the only person who treated her as normal instead of some sort of holy untouchable, so seeing Himeko want to be with someone else hurts - badly - and her strong feelings draw the attention of the Orochi...

7 - Falling Rain in the Hell of Love
Miyako, the Second Neck, pays a visit to Chikane - she's aware of her feelings towards Himeko & plans to take advantage of them. While Himeko is out on her date with Souma, Miyako shows images of their time together to Chikane, trying to draw out Chikane's darker feelings towards her friend. Later Souma & Chikane's date is interrupted when the Orochi attack...

8 - Storm of the Silver Moon
When Chikane sends Otoha to Tokyo, she knows something's up - she's been around Chikane for too long not to know how she ticks. Himeko's noticed as well - she'd like to know what's bothering her friend, but Chikane seems to be avoiding her. When she does finally get to see Chikane, it's not a happy reunion...

And at the beginning of the series, I was more worried about Souma turning to the dark side. Silly me. With the first half of the series being pretty much working to a formula, I wasn't expecting too much from the rest of it - just an enjoyable but unremarkable show. Just as I say that, the show throws a curve, going in a direction I really didn't expect it to, and shifting from "MariMite meets Gravion" into something altogether darker & more emotional.

For the first time in a long time, I've found a show where the next episode gets put on as soon as I have it - while still lacking somewhat in the originality stakes, KnM has managed to hook me in a way that very few shows have managed. I want more, and I want it now. Don't miss it.
