Tokyo Mew Mew - Volume 2Time for the second volume of the Mew Mew manga - with the team still short a few members, can Ichigo & friends find the remaining two Mews..?

Chapter 5
After riling Ichigo with his unwanted kiss, Kish ups the stakes by changing the animals at the zoo into Kirema Anima. Ichigo's unable to deal with that many anima by herself, and even when Mint & Lettuce turn up they still have problems. More help is on the way, however, when Pudding discovers she can transform and becomes the fourth Mew - and that's enough to tip the balance. After the battle, Aoyama finally manages to find Ichigo, and he's less than impressed that she disappeared on him. Taking a bell collar from a cat, he gives it to Ichigo - so he can find his all-time favourite kitty should she disappear on him again...

Chapter 6
Mint thinks that the fifth Mew could be Zakuro Fujiwara, a famous model - although that could just be Mint's inner fangirl speaking. Zakuro's due to be on the judging panel at an upcoming talent contest, so Ryou decides that Mint, Ichigo and Lettuce should enter - as an excuse to get closer to Zakuro and check if she really is the fifth member. During the audition, the venue is attacked by Kirema Anima, and as hoped, Zakuro transforms & takes care of the problem - but rather than join the group, Zakuro simply asks to be left alone...

Chapter 7
Mint is depressed - her idol, Zakuro, has refused to join the rest of the Mews in fighting against the Kirema Anima. The rest of the girls visit Mint at home for something of an impromptu slumber party, but although they do manage to cheer Mint up, their fun is interrupted when Kish crashes the party, threatening to kill Zakuro. She's taking part in a TV show that evening, and Kish plans to use the animals that will be on set to kill her. The other Mews race to the TV studio & combine their powers to defeat the Kimera Anima, but the whole battle ends up being televised - is their cover blown? Meanwhile, Zakuro finally decides to make an exception to her "I don't join groups" rule & agrees to join the Mews...

Chapter 8
Aoyama's taken an interest in some unusual cherryblossom trees - it's the middle of summer, yet they're still blooming, and it's well out of their usual season. Something to do with global warming, he thinks. Kish also has an interest in the trees, although his plans are far more sinister... When his plans place Aoyama & many others in danger, it's time for the Mews to act - but when Aoyama sees Ichigo in her Mew form, he seems to recognise her...

Extras
- Sidebar panels: Buisness Meeting 1&2 and Ikumi's Train of Thought - another look into the creative process behind Tokyo Mew Mew
- Masha's Tokyo Mew Mew Endangered Species File
- Reiko Yoshida Says..., where she gives her thoughts on the personalities of the endangered animals used by the Mews
- Banzai! - looking at the costume worn by Youki Yoshida, who plays Ichigo at PR events
- Random thoughts, Afterward & Final Thoughts from Mia Ikumi

What's not to like? :) As before, the anime has followed these chapters fairly faithfully, so if you've seen the anime you'll know the story. Again, the fun comes from the story moving along that much faster in print than it does on TV. What you don't get with the anime are the little extras that have been thrown in here - the little sidebars by Mia Ikumi in particular always raise at least a grin with me.

Overall, though, more of the same after volume 1. The Mews are now all gathered so they can get down to the serious business of taking care of the aliens, but with thins being typical mahou shoujo you just know how it's going to turn out. The fun is in how the story gets there, and so far TMM has been managing pretty well...
