Here's
an interesting little 15-minute OVA short that's well worth a look - of
all the 'doom-and-gloom future' scenarios that various anime shows have
presented over the years, Ichigeki Sacchuu!!
has possibly the most bizarre. Spare a thought for the Hoi Hoi-san and
their eternal battles against creatures on six legs or two...
In the not-too-distant future, insects have become immune to
pesticides and insectides, so more drastic measures have been
implemented: Hoi Hoi-san, miniature robots, programmed to
search-and-destroy anything that scuttles or hides in the dark. In an
effort to keep sales of Hoi Hoi-san ticking over, however, there's an
endless array of add-ons for the little cuties - and also little rival
robots, Combat-san, programmed to take down the Hoi Hoi-san. It's a
recipe for chaos, I tell ya. Spare a thought for shop-assistant Kimi,
who sells them...
Short show, short review: this is one of the most fun little OVA
shows I can remember seeing, and it looks the part, too (typical OVA
budget at work there, it seems). The premise is completely daft
(especially the Combat-san / Hoi Hoi-san 'rivalry'), but that's part of
the appeal - seeing the cutest little robots you ever did see go at
each other with all the grace and tact of the Terminator just has to be
seen.
I don't know that an Ichigeki Sacchuu!! series would be a
good idea - there'd need to be a lot of work done to make sure the idea
didn't get old very quickly - but for a 15-minute short, it's hard to
beat. An excellent little show, and it would be absolutely criminal for
it not to get a proper English-language release. Here's hoping an R1
company picks this up soon. |
