Another in a long series of game-to-anime conversions, Viewtiful Joe is... strange...
1 - Joe is The Man!
Joe's obsessed with action hero Captain Blue - much to the disgust of
his girl, Sylvia, so she's less than impressed when their first date in
ages turns out to be to the new Captain Blue movie. Seems Joe's the only
real fan, too, as they're the only ones in the cinema. Her day is about
to get worse, too - Joe and Sylvia are sucked into the movie, where
Sylvia is captured by the evil Jado - and Joe's left with the role of
hero, trying to save her...
Damn, but those characters designs are ugly. You can tell at a glance that they weren't aiming for the fanservice crowd with this one.
The basic idea of Viewtiful Joe is actually not too bad, and
this episode was fun enough in itself - but for all that, this isn't a
show I'll be following. Being based on a game, I can't see that there
are that many opportunities for it to develop past its 'hero -vs-
villian' roots, which are kinda Marvel / DC Comics in style.
The series is set for 52 episodes, which is too much of that type of
storyline for me to contemplate. If you're in to that kind of thing,
though, you may be more tolerant. :)
Interesting, but not interesting enough. Pass.
