Galaxy Angel - Volume 1I'm weak. I gave in to the lure of a pack of Galaxy Angel figures & bought an LE item I'd said I was going to pass on... :sigh: ^^; Here's your chance to see if I've wasted my money, at least as far as the show is concerned...

1 - Resort-style Angel Preparation
The members of the Angel Brigade aren't having much luck - they seem to be stuck with all the worst jobs, despite allegedly being an 'elite' team... This time, Forte & Ranpha are sent in search of a lost kitten(!). Fortunately for them, they run into Milfuelle, who seems to have an infinite supply of luck...

2 - Gamble Milfuelle Sauce
Angel Brigade's due to be receiving a new member - Mint & Vanilla are there for the occasion, but no-one can get hold of Ranpha & Forte - they're too busy spending their hard-earned money at the Casino. They're having pretty good luck, too, until their winning streak comes to the owner's attention. Not the most honest of owners, either, and it's not long before Ranpha & Forte need bailed out. Mint's not feeling too helpful - but just when they need luck the most, guess who turns up...

3 - Vanilla Flavoured Asteroid Trash Stir-Fry
An unexciting search through an orbital garbage dump uncovers something unexpected - a self-aware guided missile by the name of Normad, who's been sitting inactive for an awful long time, misses the good old days, and wonders if he should just blow up now & be done with it. Perhaps the only thing stopping him is his new-found love for Vanilla...

4 - Assorted Angel Fruits Shipped Direct
The Brigade are out protecting the chairman of a construction company. Ranpha's looking forward to the job - her research shows him as as quite the eligibile bachelor. Sadly, her info is more than a few years out of date... Anyway, Mr Kincaid seems to have some unknown enemies who are trying to knock him off, and it's up the Brigade to make sure no harm comes to Mr Kincaid - but with all the traps that are being thrown at them, it's easier said than done...

5 - Pirate-style School Memory Terrine
This episode's mission: to return the student ID card of a now-very-old-man to his old elementary school. Probem is, the school is in Area Enigma, which isn't exactly known for being safe to travel in... In the end only Ranpha and Milfuelle go on the mission, and it proves to be a lot stranger than they even expected it to be...

6 - Forte's Ruinous Stew and a Dash of Trouble
Milfuelle, Forte & Normad have been packed off on a mission to a deserted (possibly haunted?) planet, in search of Lost Technology. When Milfuelle digs up an old egg, she's determined to eat it, but before she can get it cooked it hatches into a cute little mouse-like creature. Shame it doesn't stay that way for long - soon they have a Godzilla-sized rodent that can fire lasers from its mouth that needs taking care of...

7 - Fun Park Specialties with Chicken Mint Compote
You'd think it was vacation time for the Angel Brigade, but no - they're just on assignment to a theme park, tasked with preventing any more of a string of kidnappings that have taken place at the park. Mint especially can't resist the opportunity to get into a mascot outfit...

Taking a break from the ongoing story that the GA games & manga follows, the TV series is simply a set of short, gag-filled stories to keep you amused for a while. While there are 7 half-length episodes on this disc, I'd recommed you don't watch them all in one go, otherwise the humour will begin to wear thin on you - I remember this well from my days watching GA digisubs, which I gave up on during season 3...

Anyway, back to the DVD's of season 1. The Angel Brigade's reason for being is to hunt down and obtain Lost Technology - but there's very little of that on show here. What you do get, though, is a bunch of episodes that give a bit of character introduction (for those of us whose only contact with GA has been the anime), wrapped up in some hopelessly silly stories. The show doesn't set out to do much other than entertain - and briefly at that - so it's no surprise that it manages to pull it off quite well.

The point were it falls down is that it can get awfully repetitive, especially if you watch large chunks of it in one go. If you don't mind a certain lack of originality & remember to take it in bite-sized chunks, there's a fair amount of enjoyment to be had out of Galaxy Angel, but it certainly isn't for everyone. Try before you buy.
