Oji needs his groove back, but he's not having much luck getting a band together to help him out. Is the world doomed?
8 - All Right Now
Hamill's close to working out the secret of Oji's power, Yokko's
getting more and more concerned about her husband's apparent mid-life
crisis, and Oji's taken the first steps to getting Black Heaven
together - although they're less than convinced by his stories of a war
in space... Oji's first attempt to have a group battle leads to a
no-show by the rest of the band, so off Oji goes to find out what
happened...
9 - Get Off Of My Cloud
With his first attempt at reforming his band a failure, Oji resorts to
advertising for people to form a new band with. Yokko's reaction? At
least it's better than an affair. Unfortunately for Oji, the only
people who respond to his add are the greatest bunch of wierdos
imaginable - still, he tries to make the best go of it he can. Just as
well the real Black Heaven finally turns up, just when he needs them...
10 - Ten Years Ago
The band's almost back together, but still missing their keyboard
player - which in turn is affecting their performance. Only problem is,
Black Heaven's keyboard player is sadly deceased. Meanwhile, the enemy
is starting to fight back & has developed their own version of the
'ultimate weapon' - powered by a clone of Black Heaven's keyboardist...
I have to comment on the keyboardist's death - what a way to go. :)
Worthy of note is the use of a genuine English-speaker for this scene,
instead of the usual thick Japanese accent - although the voice still
doesn't quite match the character. Also keep a lookout for a sort of
cameo appearance by Mulder & Scully... Anyway...
With the stakes getting higher, Oji's getting more and more into his
role - whether the reason is some desire to relive his youth or just
becuase he's needed doesn't really matter. Yokko's still putting up
with his games, mainly as it's keeping him out of any other types of
trouble a middle-aged man's likely to get into, but her patience isn't
going to last forever.
Parts of the disc had the feeling of filler - Oji's search for a
replacement band, for a start - and the comedy side seemed to be a bit
more prominent than previous discs, but I'm still enjoying Black Heaven. It's definitely not a show to be taken too seriously, but it's great fun. Just curious now to see how the story ends... |
