From the Press Release (full copy here):
LONG BEACH, Calif. Geneon Entertainment announced today an
agreement with leading Japanese anime producer Toei Animation (JASDAQ -
code 4816) to distribute the company's animation programs on DVD in the
U.S. and Canada. The first titles slated to be distributed under the
agreement are Air Master, Interlude and Slam Dunk. Toei Animation is credited with international smash hit properties such as Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon and Digimon and has created over 180 film and television titles well known by children and adults all over the world.
That's the first mention of R1 releases for Air Master, Interlude and Slam Dunk that I can recall. Note that this is a distribution
agreement, and not a licensing agreement - seems Toei is producing the
R1 releases for these shows itself & merely using Geneon as a
distributor. This goes some way to explaining why licenses for other
Toei ahows, such as Sailor Moon, haven't been being renewed.
Now, if this will bring the anime Holy Grail (aka Sailor Moon Sailor Stars) to R1, I'll be a very happy bunny...
