Picture a shounen anime, where instead of engaging in endless fights to
prove who's the strongest macho male, you have a guy trying to prove he
makes the best possible bread. Hold that thought, and you have Yakitate Japan!. Then move along, as there's nothing to see...
1 - He has Arrived!! The Boy who Possesses Solar Hands!
Kazuma, the boy with "Solar Hands", is on a mission to make the best
bread in the world. He's up to attempt #55, and if his family's
reactions are anything to go by it's his best creation yet. So now he's
on his way to Tokyo, hoping to get a job with a top bakery and carry
out his mission of world domination - except that there's a stack of
other people he must compete against, and only one vacancy. And all
from humble beginnings when Kazuma was just six years old, and vowed he
hated bread...
And there was me thinking golf was the most dull subject matter they could pick for an anime series (DanDoh). Silly me. Dressing it up with the feel of a shounen fighting show doesn't really help its cause, either.
This just got a "huh?!" from me, in a "Why did they bother?!" kind
of way. No interest whatsoever in seeing what happens from here, and no
real interest in writing much more about it, either. A definite 'pass'. |
