Latest TV series from Matsumoto, most notably of Captain Herlock fame. I've never liked Herlock,
so there's a bad sign for a start. The initial setting also seems a
bit.. dumb.. (space train, complete with wheels & "choo choo"
sound? Yeah.. okay...), so the initial impressions weren't good. That
said, first impressions don't always kill a show for me, so let's see
where Galaxy Railways goes...
Episode 1 does the usual job of introducing the characters - in this
case Manabu & Mamoru, and their father Wataru, captain of the Big
One, one of the trains of the Space Railways force. After an opening
scene where his train has come under attack, we skip back a bit to when
Wataru's train comes home and he gets to see his family. He's called
away urgently, but this time the kids manage to stow away on board - so
now we have most of the family caught up in a battle in space. Noble
sacrifice ensues...
A dead father & brother later, and we're left with the whiny
brat of the family, Manabu, as the remaining lead character - and he's
off into space, much to his mother's disgust...
Meh. I kinda lost interest before the end of episode 2, mainly down
to lack of interest in the characters & my own problems with the
setting (you need this thing called 'suspension of disbelief' before
you can really get into a science fiction show, and the whole trains
thing here worked against that quite badly). Matsumoto fans will
probably get a lot more mileage out of it than I did, but I won't be
bothering with Galaxy Railways past this point. |
