Remind me - KonoMini did seem to have some sort of plot when it started, right? 'Cause they seem to have forgotten all about it, here...
6 - Standing by the Waterside
Summer holidays, which in anime means either a trip to the ocean, or
the mountains. Hikari & Akari would prefer the mountains, thankyou,
so that's where everyone's headed. With Takeru and Ryou having their
own 'mysterious girls', the other guys are thinking that all good
things some in threes and are keeping an eye out for the next girl to
appear. There's also the usual camping traditions - the test of courage
among them. Takeru's paired with Akari (much to Mari's disgust), but
their time together s interrupted when they're attacked by a creature -
apparently...
7 - Prelude to a Kiss
After the mountains, it's time for the ocean - although Hikari's a bit
disappointed by the crowds. It certainly doesn't match what she's seen
on TV, and
she has to work, as the girls are staffing a beach cafe (with their
swimsuits being the main draw for the customers) - although Hikari's
work habits means chaos isn't far behind. She's also keen to get closer
to Takeru, and she's angling for a kiss - but Takeru, like most males,
doesn't see it, leaving Hikari to wonder if he really likes her at
all...
As mentioned, any pretentions of plot seem to have gone out the window for these episodes - another area where KonoMini follows in Mahoromatic's footsteps quite closely. That may well be a portent of doom, given GAINAX's involvement here.
Anyway. Expect mid-season fanservice and fun, and not a hell of a
lot else. It's okay as far as it goes - there's certainly been
worse-looking groups of female characters given episodes like these -
but I can't help but feeling I didn't really get anything out of this.
Mid-season doldrums, perhaps, so I'll watch a few more episodes yet -
but despite (or maybe because of) the similarities with Mahoromatic, this show is definitely edging towards 'unsatisfying'. |
