This'll be quick. Kimagure Robot's
episodes are a mere 5 minutes long, which makes it perfect for watching
when you need a quick anime fix but don't have time for a full
episode. It's a timeslot that worked for Looney Tunes, anyway - but do the robots have quite the same appeal?
1 - The Capricious Robot
The millionaire Dr N is moving to his private island, and wants a robot
to use as a personal assistant. One's conveniently available at
the lab, so thinking he's getting a good deal, he takes it. For a
while, it's great - it cooks well, cleans well, and even has a module
that allows it to turn into a beautiful woman. But it's not long
before things begin to go horribly wrong...
2 - The Night Incident?
The lab's newest creation is working the entranvce to a themepark, when
a group of aliens from the planet KILL (subtle, that) arrive, planning
to take over the world. They're more than a little confused when
their first victim seems more than happy to see them & thanks them
for every attack they inflict on her. Even their ultimate attack
doesn't seem to have any effect - so what's a group of bloodthirsty
aliens to do?
The KILL aliens need to work on their weaponry - somehow, using a tickler as your ultimate weapon lacks a certain sense of doom.
Each episode of Kimagure Robot stands on its own a features a
robot-of-the-week - Dr N's new purchase is designed to never let you
get bored, the themepark robot is just doing its job when the
unfortunate aliens pick it instead of a real human to test out their
nefarious plot. All the show sets out to do is take an idea &
take a humourous look at it, and it works quite well - there's a bit of
a slapstick feel to it, and I'm looking forward to checking out a few
more episodes.
