Uh-oh. New BeeTrain series. I approach Meine Liebe with trepidation...
1 - Hubris
Kuchen is an island kingdom, off the coast of France. There, the king rules with the help of the Strahl, his close advisors. Meine Liebe
deals with the 'Strahl Candidates', a group of young men hoping to one
day become members of the Strahl. They all attend Rosenstoltz Academy,
a prestigious college where the best of Kuchen's students are educated.
Orphe is there for a reason - two years earlier, his sister was killed
in an unprovoked attack by another country, & he's determined to
work his way to a position where he can take his revenge.
Bishonen & politics - ugh. Just when BeeTrain seem to be
trying a series that's more substance than show, they pick a subject
that I have really no interest in. In a lot of ways, this is setting up
to be a variation on the 'silly shounen fighting show' genre, except
instead of actually fighting, it's a battle of wits to see who can
become a member of the Strahl. All very well, except the characters (at
least as far as you get to see them in the first episode) are a
generally unlikeable bunch who really have nothing about them that
makes me want to see how they progress.
Surprisingly for a BeeTrain show, there's also nothing really
noteworthy about the soundtrack, and the animation seems to be done on
the cheap - there are a number of scenes here where the characters are
talking (in a suitable fixed pose), but the scene is shown from a slight
distance - meaning no animation whatsoever for a few seconds until the
scene angle changes. Very poor.
Add it all together, and you have a show I really couldn't care less about. Pass. |
