How to describe Koi Koi Seven. "Harem sentai ecchi action comedy with a hint of romance", perhaps. For some reason I'm reminded of CosPrayers,
but while this show has most of the same ingredients, I'm happy to say
it's much more watchable. Now if I could just get that insanely
catchy OP theme out of my head, I'd be a much happier person...
1 - Petals in Full Spread! We are Bloomers of Love, Koi Koi 7~
It's Tetsuro Tanaka's first day at his new school, Gokou Academy, and it doesn't take
him long to figure out something's not right - apart from appearing to
be the only guy there, the exploding helicopters and other such mayhem
probably gave it away that his new school is no ordinary one.
Fortunately, class cutie Yayoi Asuka is on hand to save his ass and
show him around the place. Seems Asuka knows him from somewhere,
too, although Tetsuro can't remember meeting her before.
Meanwhile, Student Council leader Miya Higashikazuna seems determined
to make Tatsuro's life difficult unless he pledges loyalty to her - but
Yayoi and her friends, the Koi Koi Seven, aren't about to let her have
her own way...
2 - Girls Bravo! Get Wet, Get Washed Away - It's Miya-sama's Revenge~
Miya and her cohorts don't give up easily in their quest to get Tesuro
to swear loyalty, and seem to have and endless supply of combat mechs
to help them achieve their aim - not that they seem to be able to do
much against Tetsuyo's bodyguards. It's still a bit much for the
por guy, and he starts wondering why his father sent him to Gokou
Academy in the first place. Meanwhile, Miya has come up with a
new plan to get Tetsuya's loyalty - a swimming contest with Tetsuro as
the prize, and Miya's determined to win by fair means or foul...
I watched this five days ago. I'm still humming the $@&!ing
OP theme. Songs that catchy should really be banned. It's Koi Koi 7 - Super Love, if you'd care to join me in going insane.
As well as the CosPrayers comparison, there's another - much more positive - one that came to mind when watching this: Project A-Ko.
High-school mecha battles, plenty of fanservice, and a rich-girl baddie
who would give B-Ko a real run for her money. Each of the Koi Koi
7 have their own particular A-Ko'esque abilities, too. Put it all
together, and I loved it - although I seem to be in the minority on
that, judging by some of the online reaction.
Storywise, I have no clue yet about why Yayoi and friends are so keen
to protect Tetsuro, or why Miya and co are so keen to have him swear
loyalty to them, but frankly I don't much care - the antics the two
sides get up to while trying to accomplish their aims are enough to
keep me watching and amused. There's something unusual going on
behind the
scenes in terms of why Tetsuro's there, but no clues yet. And
just who is
the girl with the eyepatch? Why are the girls Koi Koi 7 when there's
only six of 'em? Why am I worrying about all that instead of just
enjoying the show for what it is - a fun festival of fanservice?
These questions and more may be answered in my next review - but I
doubt it. Just sit back, switch off and enjoy the fun that is Koi Koi Seven.
