Pretty Cure - Title CardWhaddya know - Pretty Cure's bodycount increases by one in this batch of episodes, and it's a death that could have some consequences.  Read on if you don't mind being spoiled.  In other news, the show continues to play by the mahou shoujo book with a bit of a power-up, some romance, and a falling out between two lead characters.  Good thing I don't watch this for its originality...

18 - Hearts a-Beating!  The Midterm Test is a Maze of Love
One of Nagisa's classmates is in love - Seiko-chan's working herself up to her first confessions of love.  To Kiriya.  Not the best of choices, there, but she's not to know that.  Her confession doesn't go well, though - not knowing much about human habits, he just gives her the brush-off, but something makes him go to Honoka for advice on how to deal with people.  Time for another lesson in friendship, and maybe some doubts about whether helping the Dark Zone is a good thing or not.  Meanwhile, Nagisa's having trouble preparing for the mid-term exams, Seiko hasn't given up on Kiriya just yet, and Poisonee has what seems to be a flawless plan for getting the Prism Stones...

Pretty Cure - Honoka worries about Seiko's rejectionPretty Cure - Kiriya has trouble with this 'feelings' thing

19 - Too Scary!  The Dark Zone's Last Card
Mepple's been a real pain lately (yes, even more so than usual), and it's gotten to the stage where Mipple's just about had enough of him.  Could the love affair between anime's most annoying mascot critters be coming to an end?  Speaking of ends, the Dark Zone is edging closer to destruction, and still hasn't recovered any of the Prism Stones that are need to save it.  Desperate times require desperate measures, as the Dark King's most powerful lackey, Irukubo, takes on the job of defeating Pretty Cure and seizing the Prism Stones...

Pretty Cure - Two mascots in a huffPretty Cure - Irukubo takes the full force of Pretty Cure's attack

20 - Which One is Real?  Together with Honoka
Nagisa and Honoka's last battle seems to have given them a bit of a power-up, which is always a good thing.  Just as well, as in the face of the Dark King's growing rage Poisonee has promised to bring the Prism Stones back to the Dark Zone, even if it costs her her life.  Her plan?  To separate Nagisa and Honoka by taking on Honoka's form - but a slip of the tongue gives the game away.  Unable to fight on her own, Nagisa runs for it - but when both Honoka's track her down at the same time, Nagisa has to decide which one to trust...

Pretty Cure - Looks like Honoka, talks like Honoka - isn't Honoka.Pretty Cure - Poisonee gets serious

Makes a nice change to see Poisonee kicking ass for a change instead of just being comic relief - not that it does her any good in the end.  Chalk one down, two to go.  Promising to do something or die should probably be in the Evil Overlords' List of Things Not To Do, as death is pretty much certain as soon as you say it.

This death does appear to have consequences, though - Kiriya has been softening up of late and definitely has problems with finding that he likes humans more than he's willing to admit - his sister's death could be the thing to push him to becoming truly evil.  It'll be interesting to see where that part of the story goes.

Sadly, Mipple and Mepple kiss and make up, so there's no escape from their antics for now~mepo.  I can also hope~mepo.  Anyone got a shotgun~mepo?

Other than that, Pretty Cure is still faithfully following its formula.  There's a definite feel that Something Big™ is going to happen in the not-to-distant future - nicely timed with the mid-point of the series, I suspect - but we're not quite there yet.  I'm having great fun working up to it, though, in a "guilty pleasure" kind of way...
