Chihaya's search for the Seeds continues in Magical Canan,
and quite successfully too, even if she does have a new magical warrior
rival to deal with. Just one question: what happened to Emi's
magical girl alter ego? Just when she started getting
interesting, she disappeared...
3 - The Story of Chihaya's Love?
It's going to take a while for Chihaya to get used to Natsuki waking up
next to her. Especially when he's been sleeping in human form
instead of magical bunny form. Never mind what her parents will
think if they find him. ^^; Natsuki's sensed there might be
a Seed in Akihabara, so Chihaya needs to go check it out, but wannabe
love-interest Suzuhara-kun insists on tagging along. It's
Chihaya's first experience of otaku heaven, but it soon turns into
otaku hell when a model-obsessed otaku is possessed by a Seed and runs
amok...
4 - Magical Warrior Cerulean Blue
Three Seeds down, two to go, but as the Seeds become more powerful with
time they're going to be hard ones to recover - and Natsuki's
relationship with Chihaya isn't quite at the level needed to let her
tackle them easily. Chihaya's latest plan of keeping him in a
kennel on the balcony of her room won't help, either. After
school, Chihaya heads over to study with Miyuri and Sayaka, and against
all the odd persuades Emi to join them - although Miyuri's not too keen
on the idea, as Emi's still being as antisocial as possible. At
Sayaka's house that night, Natsuki senses the presence of a Seed.
Chihaya transforms and chases after it, only to see it attack
Emi. Her attempts to destory it are interrupted by the appearance
of another Magical Warrior - Cerulean Blue...
5 - Angel Kiss' Day Off
Chihaya's been having some strange dreams, about a magical warrior
escaping from somewhere, carrying a baby and helped by a male warrior -
although she doesn't know what it means yet. Meanwhile, it's a
busy day at her mother's restaurant - with one of the kitche staff
having failed to turn up, she press-gangs Natsuki into helping out for
the day. Later, Natsuki warns Chihaya that the Seeded humands
they've fought so far aren't the final form that the Seeds can produce
- if they don't retrieve the final Seed soon, it may mutate to a state
they won't be able to purify...
Emi's few appearances in these episodes have left me thorougly confused
about whether she's good, evil, or somewhere in between.
Hopefully that'll get sorted out soon, as in the fist two episodes she
was a really intriguing character - while here she's eye-candy.
Bah. Cerulean Blue is on the side of good, it seems, even if she
does have an annoying ojousama attitude problem. As the bad guys
are getting ever more powerful , an ally is always a good thing - I'm
just waiting to see who she turns out to be.
As for the story - so far, so formulaic, but you never really expect
much else from mahou shoujo shows. Magical Canan doesn't set out
to set the world alight, but it meets its low aims really well -
meaning it's fun to watch, if something of a guilty pleasure.
Picking up the Seeds should be complete fairly soon, meaning there's a
new stage for the story to move into - I'm looking forward to seeing
how it develops.
