Galatea tires of being under others' control and seizes power
for herself - and with the ability to control pretty much all forms of
technology, including boomers, she's not a person you want to mess
with. Hard time ahead for the Knight Sabers, it seems, as Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 begins to creep towards its conclusion...
17 - Moving Waves
The boomer attack on AD Police HQ continues, with Nene still trapped
inside along with a few other officers. Nene's trying to keep an
eye on things from the control centre and help the others out, but
there are so many boomers on the loose it's impossible to keep track of
them all. She manages to find a way to transmit an emergency
signal, but then the boomers infiltrate the computer network
and take control of the security system. Meanwhile, Leon's
beginning to get suspicious about the motives of those behind the AD
Police, and the decision to merge them in with the regular police - is
this just a way of covering up the problems with mad boomers? - while
Mason's maneuverings are uncovered by his Rosenkroitz...
18 - We Built This City
Nene's emergency call has been successful in bringing at least some of
AD Police's striking officers to the rescue, including Leon, while
Priss has arrived with the Moto Slave - the only weaponry she has
access to while the Knight Sabers' hardsuits are in repair. Back
inside the building, Nene and the others are still holding out, but the
boomers are beginning to close in on them. Priss and Leon are
able to reach the survivors, but getting back out of the building alive
is a whole other problem. Meanwhile, Mason finally takes care of
Rosenkroitz's concerns - permanently...
19 - Are You Experienced?
The gang have managed to escape from the Totem Pole, but the mad
boomers are still on the loose and spreading through Tokyo. Leon
broadcasts a warning, calling on people to evacuate the city and
detailing Genom's involvement in the increase in mad boomers, before
moving out with the city's remaining AD Police officers to destroy the
main cause of the problem - Genom's Dragon Line. Meanwhile, Sylia
has created a new type of hardsuit and hopes to persuade Priss to use
it, while Galatea's effect continues to spread...
20 - One of These Nights While Leon and Daley
try and deal with the most deadly boomer yet, Linna arrives in her
new-model hardsuit - and deals with the problem with
almost embarrassing ease. Most impressive, although it takes a
while for the other Knight Sabers to be outfitted with their own new
suits. Mason, meanwhile, continues to try and manipulate Galatea
only to find that she most definitely has a mind - and objectives - of
her own, while Priss is the target of an attack by an army of.. clown
dolls?!
21 - Close to the Edge
With her new hardsuit and motoslave, Priss heads out to help the others
in their battle against the Dragon Line. Nene and Linna are
captured and look set to have their hardsuits absorbed by it,
eventually joined by Sylia when her rescue attempt fails, leaving Priss
to do the job - until Sylia comes up with a plan to use their hardsuits
to control the Dragon Line from within. Later, the girls'
peaceful night is interrupted when Tokyo's boomers descend on the Pit...
Bit of a plothole in episode 18, where it appears humans are immune to
liquid nitrogen freezing. Handy ability, that... Also
disappointing to see that Genom's involvement in proceedings came to a
fairly abrupt end - for all the scheming that Mason was involved in, at
the end he was simply used as a tool to release Galatea and then cast
to one side. After how the mighty Genom Corporation was built up
as a menace in the early part of the series, that's such a waste.
The pace of the story has slowed down a good bit as well, which I'm not
convinced is a good thing - the escape from the Totem Pole took a good
three episodes to resolve, which was really stretching things
out. Still at least events are reaching their climax, with only
one volume to go. Should be a great ending, if they just work on
the pacing...
