Keroro Gunso - Episode 1Keroro Gunso (or Sergeant Keroro, if you prefer) is one of those surprise packages - sounds as dumb as hell on the surface, but turns out to be well worth watching...

1a - I am Sergeant Keroro
When Earth is invaded by alien frogs from Planet Keron, one of them somehow manages to end up living with young schoolgirl Natsumi, doing chores to earn his keep. Keroro's been given his own room - hidden in the depths of Natsumi's house - but something about the room just doesn't seem right...

1b - Keroro Lands
Wondering how Keroro came to be living on Earth? They just remembered to tell us that part. While on an undercover surveillance mission, Sergeant Keroro's cover is blown - although more by accident than anything else. When his capture leads to this Keron mothership leaving Earth (one frog captured = far too dangerous a planet), Keroro has to make the best of a bad situation...

2a - Momoka and Tamama Move Out!
Keroro's finally remembered that there were more frogs than just him in his squad. Techinally he's not allowed out of the house, but threat of dissection, experimentation or being flattened by a car aren't going to prevent him from searching for his comrades. Meanwhile, Fuyuki's having to deal with a confession of love from schoolmate Momoko - who's keeping an alien frog of her own...

2b - Momoka and Tamama Land at the Hinata Household
Momoka's been invited round to Fuyuki's house, giving her another chance to make her confession (after Tamama botched it for her last time). It's not quite the visit she was expecting - there's a 'rival' in the form of Natsumi, and both Momoka and Tamama have trouble keeping their tempers in check..

This is another 'wacky comedy' series - while you have a basic premise (frogs invading Earth), that's not really the point of the show, as it's really all about the day-to-day interactions of Keroro & his squad with the humans they've ended up living with, all wrapped up in a large dose of slapstick humour. Think Hare+Guu for a loose comparison.

We're still into 'introduce the characters' territory here - two frogs down, and three to go, and you can tell from the OP where the characterisations are going. Keroro Gunso is never going to be anything deep or meaningful (I hope), but sometimes shallow & meaningless is just what you need to bring a smile to your face. This show does that, and does it well.
