Time for another few episodes of one of the most shallow shows I've seen in a while, He is My Master. But wait! Are those the first signs of character development beginning to poke out from under the pile of scantily-clad flesh? Stranger things have happened...
9 - Izumi is Izumi, but Izumi will No Longer Yield to Anyone Izumi and Mitsuki are in Okinawa for Izumi's first modelling shoot - it's not going too well, either, as Izumi just can't get into the mood to do it. Things don't improve after Yoshitaka and Anna turn up, bringing their own form of chaos with them. And her parents. And Karin. How's a girl to get any work done with all these people around!? For Yoshitaka and Pochi, though, things are looking up as beautiful French blonde Alicia & her pet alligator Ellen invite them to stay over at Alicia's private villa. Izumi's convinced Alicia's not on the level, but the boys aren't thinking with their heads any more...
10 - He is My Prince!? Izumi's earnt enough from her idol debut to pay back her debt to Yashitaka - meaning freedom is just around the corner. Faced with the loss of her love, Anna-chan decides it may be for the best if she settles for Yoshitaka instead, but Izumi's determined that he's the one man Anna shouldn't be going out with. The solution? Another Mitsuki-contest, the Yoshitaka-kun ♥ Anna-san Love-Love Competition - but is Anna just trying to provoke Izumi into running up her debt again? Later, Yoshitaka's cousin Seiichirou Nakabayashi appears - not only is he jealous of Yoshitaka's millions & harem of servants, he's fallen in love with Izumi after seeing her pictures on the internet and is determined to save her from Yoshitaka's clutches. He's also the boss of her modelling company, conveniently. At first Izuma believes she's found her prince, but it's not long before she realises that one's as bad as the other...
Episode 9 is more of the usual HiMM fluff, although I have to admit seeing Izumi as a bondage queen was more fun that it had any right to be - and apparently turns Anna on even more than usual. Okaaaay...
Episode 10 has the first real change in circumstances in the series so far - with her debt paid off, Izumi's got no real reason to put up with Yoshitaka's mistreatment any longer, but (shock! horror!) can't bring herself to leave. Even when she does eventually head to Seiichirou's apartment, all she can think about is Yoshitaka. Awww - it must be love, despite him being a manipulative and power-hungry toerag. It's another case of HiMM playing straight by the formula - if anyone can honestly say they were surprised by the appearance of a rival & Izumi falling for Yoshi, they probably haven't been paying attention.
Overall, then, another set of episodes that do nothing unusual or unexpected, yet still manage to tickle the funnybone. With only two more episodes to go it's a cert I'll be finishing the series - although you can bet I'll be wondering at the end if there weren't better things to do with my time...
