With two cons taking place this past weekend, there are a few new licensing announcements - some surprising, so less so. FUNimation have been busy, finally confirming BECK while stealing Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid from under ADV's nose. FUNi have also sub-licensed TOKYOPOP's DVD catalog, and will be re-releasing them along the way. Media Blasters are co-producing a sequel for Kite, and ADV cryptically announced they'll be confirming 6 new licenses between now and AX, before confirming Jinki:EXTEND as the first of them.
On the downside, Central Park Media have laid off most of their staff, apparently ahead of filing for bankruptcy. Whether this will be a protective move while they restructure or is a prelude to winding up the business, no-one really seems to know - but either way, it's a sad piece of news about one of the west's anime pioneers.
