RightStuf / Nozomi Goes Classic with Dirty Pair
Licensing
Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:44

Dirty PairNozomi Entertainment have gone way back to 1985 to retrieve classic series Dirty Pair as their latest license. The series, which features "Lovely Angels" Kei and Yuri and their penchant for overkill, will be released as two half-season sets (subtitles only), with the first arriving in late 2010. Kei and Yuri are a pair of intergalactic detectives, whose arrival at the scene of a mystery is always a source of hope and dread, since: 1) they always solve the case, 2) wherever they go, something gets horribly wrecked, up to and including entire planets. Lucky for them - but not-so-lucky for the rest of the universe - there are always some sort of extenuating circumstances that support their most often-used phrase, "It's not our fault". Despite the show's age and reputation, this is the first English-language release for the original TV series, although the sequel OVAs were released by ADV Films.

Crunchyroll and the Final Episodes of Durarara and Sora no Woto
News and Events
Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:38

CrunchyrollThe final two episodes of Durarara and Sora no Woto, both being "simulcast" by CR this season, will be streamed on the same day as their Japanese home video release. Confirmation of the move came from the Twitter timeline of CR's VP Licensing, Rob Pereyda. It's worth noting that these are apparently "direct-to-video" releases, which aren't part of the Japanese airing. As Aniplex have not yet announced the release dates for the relevant DVDs, it seems that fans of both shows will simply have to exercise some patience for a while.
UPDATE: Clarification that these are "direct-to-video" episodes. No pitchforks required.

FMA: Brotherhood "Likely" to get Blu-ray Release
News and Events
Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:33

Full Metal Alchemist: BrotherhoodIn the first of today's "things I learnt on Twitter" posts, Manga UK have confirmed that Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood's first volume will street in the UK on 23rd August - with a Blu-ray release on the same date "now highly likely". Don't know about the rest of you, but to me, more Blu is always good, and day-and-date releases just make it even sweeter.

Joost Shutters Anime Section
News and Events
Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:29

JoostAnime News Network reports that streaming service Joost will remove the last of its anime content on 25th June. The company was bought out late last year and shortly afterwards announced that it would be moving away from providing services to the public (that's you and me) and into providing back-end services to other companies - the Joost site has been in a slow winding down process ever since. Most of the content they provide is available elsewhere, though - FUNimation titles via YouTube and their own streaming portal, Toei titles in North America via Crunchyroll and Hulu, and Gong Anime titles through Anime Network's streaming service. So while in some ways it's the end of an era, we're not actually losing anything. Farewill, Joost, you served us well - for a while, anyway. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some embedded Joost videos to remove...
