The takeover of GDH, GONZO's parent company, by Iwakaze Capital is now complete, and the new owners have moved to cut the animation company's losses by restructuring and cutting output. The company is now slated to release just four new shows in 2009, down from a planned eight, while the four in-house animation studios are being merged into a single operation. With GONZO being famous for style-over-substance, and having released a few real turkeys in recent years (BLASSREITER, anyone?), hopefully the cuts will mean a focus on more quality releases - the second season of Tower of DRUAGA has been confirmed as one of the four, while I suspect only a fool would bet against a second cour of the unusually successful Strike Witches, but we'll have to wait and see...
