Some shows are so good you can't help but watch 'em as soon as you get them. 2x2=Shinobuden is just such a show...
2.1 - Ninja, Enjoying a Cherry Blossom Party
It's Spring, which means it's time for the annual flower festival - if
only it wasn't raining with no end in sight. Cue one ninja village full
of depressed ninja - but when flowers start growing inside the ninja
school, it seems the festival may be saved. Sort of. Later, Onsokumaru
has a run-in with a crocodile - and for some reason no-one's in much of
a rush to save him...
2.2 - Shinobu Goes on a Date with Kaede
Shinobu drops by to visit Kaede, just as she's about to go out on a
shopping trip. After getting rid of Onsokumaru, Kaede invites Shinobu
to go along with her - but Shinobu's not used to the city. Meanwhile,
Onsokumaru & Sasuke aren't being dumped from the trip without a
fight, leaving Kaede in a bit of a pinch when she runs into one of her
friends. Later, Shinobu's little sister, Miyabi, appears - and she's
quite the little troublemaker...
3.1 - Onsokumaru is Angry
Onsokumaru's not happy - Miyabi (sweet little girl that she is) has
been picking on him, and he's determined to get his revenge. Cue heavy
training sessions - but no matter what he does, it seems he's no match
for the junior sorcerer. Time to bring in the heavy weaponry - meaning
Devil the crocodile, who was last seen trying to eat Onsokumaru, and
seems to have liked the taste...
3.2 - Shinobu Runs Away!
Shinobu listens in on a meeting between Onsokumaru & the Sasuke
that she shouldn't have been - and misinterpreting some things to mean
that they don't want her to be around, she runs away to Kaede's house.
When Onsokumaru & co come looking for her, Kaede makes it very
clear she's not happy with him for the the way Shinobu's been treated -
until she figures out it's been a misunderstanding. Meanwhile,
Shinobu's trying to make the most of the opportunity to jump in the
bath with Kaede...
This'll be quite a short review, for the simple reason that wacky
comedies usually don't have much to write about - they either work, or
they don't. This one works spectacularly well, and in the space of
these episode covers all the bases, from ecchi though cute, via random
violence and the odd touching moment. New here is Miyabi, Shinobu's
cute but violent little sister & a trainee sorcerer. At this stage,
she's just another avenue to heap humiliation on Onsokumaru (who
usually deserves it), but there's a certain amount of sister complex
going on there that could be used to good effect later, if UFOTable
choose to go that way.
Overall, then, still enjoying this immensely - well worth watching. |
