DemonBane's fairly straightforward - a one-shot Giant Robot OVA,
based on a PS2 game. I'll give it one thing - it's an improvement over
the German-dubbed Agent Aika that was my only anime fix while I was away...
Maniacal Dr Wester and his mecha are attacking Airchime City, and
there's not much the city defence forces can do about it - although
mysterious mech Demonbane saves the day. It's a good time for freelance
journalist Lily to arrive in town, though - it makes for plenty of
opportunities in the newspaper business. She soon finds that getting
hard information about Demonbane is more easily said than done. She
soon begins to uncover a link with the city's Hadou Corporation, though
- but that may be a dangerous link to investigate...
Worth watching for Dr Wester's antics, if nothing else, but watch
out for the bad 80's-style CGI (think Tron) when Demonbane finally
appears - this may be an OVA, but it doesn't seem to have had the
typical OVA budget lavished on it. As with most game conversions, I'd
say prior knowledge of the game world would help a lot - as a
standalone episode, this doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense, and the
so-so production values don't help. Not really worth the effort... |
