Moritasan wa Mukuchi

A series of 26 5-minute episodes, Moritasan wa Mukuchi ("Morita-san is Taciturn", or words to that effect) isn't something that there's enough of to really get bored of. Although there's not much time to really do anything with, to be honest...

Mayu Morita can often be found hanging around with her friends Hana, Miki and Chihiro, but unlike the three of them, who are as talkative as any high-school girls would be expected to be, Mayu is quiet in the extreme - getting more than two words out of her is an effort. Not that a little thing like that gets in the way of friendship...

MayuMiki

That's a short description, but then this is a damned short show, with each episode clocking in at around 3 minutes after the opening credits are discounted (there are no closing credits). Suffice to say, there's not enough here for me to bother with episode summaries. With Mayu being the title character, she's the one that gets the most of the screentime - which is a little off-putting, as she never actually speaks other than in her own mind. "Shy" is the official description but, as Hana has found, "intense" would be more accurate at times - an impression that's backed up by her having the sort of lifeless eyes that are usually reserved in anime for possessed or brainwashed characters. Strange girl. Fortunately Miki, Chihiro and Hana are on hand to stop her from completely dominating things.

Each episode takes a theme - runaway imagination, ideal men, gym class, and so on - and simply has a little fun with it for a few minutes. It's nothing particularly inventive or unusual, most of the observations that the girls make on a given situation are all things you'll have thought of yourself, and the way the girls react to most things isn't too over-the-top either - it's just real slice-of-life, seen through the eyes of a rather shy girl.

Which makes it okay, as far as it goes - not something I'd bother buying, but even at 26 episodes the amount of time you'll put into watching this on Crunchyroll isn't going to be a big commitment. Although once through it probably all you need. Worth a look, though.
