Sugar - Volume 5Back to normal life for Sugar & Saga, with time included for a brief trip to recap-land - and only a passing mention for both 'twinkle' and magical flowers in the latest batch of Sugar episodes...

17 - While Waiting for Sugar
Saga's looking forward to Sugar's return & doing all she can to make sure she'll feel welcome when she gets home. Problem is, Sugar's stuck in the middle of a typhoon - it's too dangerous to travel, so the group are going to be delayed, and have no way of letting Saga know they'll be late. Back home, Saga begins to worry when Sugar doesn't turn up on time...

18 - Festival! Waffo!
Strange things are happening in town, to the fairies' eyes at least - it's festival time, and an excuse for folks to get the decorations out & dress up in traditional gear. Best part - it's a cookie festival. which is the next best thing to waffo as far as Sugar's concerned. Greta's treating the event as a popularity contest & not having much luck, while Phil uses the occasion to unveil his Box-Shaped Robot - an unusual way to give out cookies, at least, until it runs amok around town...

19 - One Memory for Two
Sucks to be a schoolkid after the festival, when you're stuck on clean-up duty. After a quick once-over at the castle, Saga & co join Phil at his lab, where they come across a number of items Sugar's used in previous escapades - cue recap stuff as Saga & Sugar reminisce over the fun they've had together. The mood is spoiled when their teacher figures out they've snuck off, so it's extra cleaning duties for the gang. Saga & Sugar still manage to find more items to remind them of the past as they clean. Away from the recap material, Greta's birthday is coming up, and she has plans to wow everyone with a high-class party. What was mainly a good day for Saga is ruined, however, when she finds out that someone has bought her mother's piano...

20 - The Vanished Promise
As if seeing her mom's piano sold off isn't enough, there's a large dose of salt rubbed into Saga's emotional wounds when she finds out it's become Greta's birthday present. Saga's unable to hold back her feelings when Greta pulls her usual challenge stunt on her when the piano is unveiled, but even Greta feels guilty once she finds out why Saga reacts the way she does...

Sugar's at its best when it's just dealing with day-to-day life without the distractions of 'twinkle' or anything else, and that's pretty much what you get here. Even the recap episode isn't too bad, as there are a few original bits and pieces thrown in there to keep the interest up. For the rest of the disc the show sticks to what it does best & follows the relationship between Saga & Sugar (and if you've been paying attention, that has a lot to do with finding the 'twinkle', even if it's not really mentioned here...). That focus makes this disc a joy to watch, and I highly recommend it. Here's hoping they can keep that focus for one more disc...
