Long ago, a great battle raged between the forces of Light and Darkness with each side possessing great strengths, the mightiest of all being the power of Shadow. During the battle, the Seven Soldiers of Light managed to defeat the forces of Darkness and sealed the power of Shadow away. However, the power lived on, passing from generation to generation of Shadow Masters, never revealing itself. Until now…

The power of Shadow has resurfaced and the evil Nene, ruler of the Grankingdom, is bent on conquering the world by combining its force with machines of destruction. In a quest to stop Nene's nefarious plot, female warrior Zola and her young apprentice Jiro set forth to find the descendents of the Seven Soldiers of Light in the hope that they, too, will be able to harness the Shadow and join them in the fight against Nene. Soon after arriving at the peaceful Talta Village, they are attacked by Nene's army but are aided by a ten-year-old boy, Shu, and his young friends. Faced with the destruction of all he holds dear, Shu inadvertently awakens within himself the legendary Blue Dragon, a Shadow power of immeasurable strength and fury. Joining forces with Zola and Jiro, Shu endeavours to master his newfound Shadow powers and to use them in the fight for good.
